About Buziaș, in brief

Buziaș suits a particular kind of traveller: someone who has already seen Timișoara and wants a slow, green, slightly melancholy base for two or three nights. The town is built around its park, a large, well-kept expanse of mature trees, lawns and the famous wooden colonnade — a covered promenade, roughly 500 metres long, where nineteenth-century guests took their morning and afternoon strolls. If you are here for that, for the mineral springs, or simply for the quiet, the town delivers. It is also a reasonable choice for a small conference or a family gathering, because the hotels sit within the park or on its edge, and everything is walkable.

Buziaș is about 35 km south-east of Timișoara. By train, the journey from Timișoara Nord takes roughly 50–70 minutes, with two or three services a day in each direction; the station in Buziaș is a 10–15 minute walk from the park and the main hotels. The last train back to Timișoara leaves in the early evening, so if you want a full day in the city you either go early or arrange to stay overnight there. By bus, there are more frequent services — roughly every hour or two — from Timișoara's bus station, taking about an hour; the bus stop in Buziaș is more central than the train station. Tickets are cheap, but the buses can be crowded and do not run late into the evening.

Good to know before you book

Cobbles are the usual surprise in the centre: wheeled cases rattle and heels suffer. Most museums close on Monday. Terraces take cards; the markets and the bakeries prefer cash.
